Tea at Tillies

Being English, I have always loved a good Afternoon Tea. Finger sandwiches, tiny cakes, some Earl Grey tea and a glass or two of Champagne is a treat for anyone, but especially popular with the ladies. That’s why I jumped on the booking when I heard Tillies on West Bay Road was trying it out as a regular offering. I wanted to show support for something I knew would be very well received by both locals and tourists alike. Who doesn’t love a bit of elegance in paradise! As luck would have it, my mum was visiting and so we ventured out with empty stomachs and a joie de vivre ready to give it a go. We were not disappointed. As we arrived (a 3pm booking) we were handed a glass of bubbles and taken to an outside table surrounded by palms and greenery. The whole atmosphere was very vintage California (right next to the beach full of stripy yellow umbrellas), the tables were set with cute English decor including an old fashioned tea pot. It felt very stylish and comfortable with everyone in a variety of attires from swimsuits with coverups to summer dresses. Soon after we sat down the anticipated three tier cake stand appeared with a lovely selection of finger sandwiches (smoked salmon, chicken, ham, egg salad, cheese and chutney) and cakes (eclairs, battenberg, macarons, scones with jam and cream). You can choose from several different teas and other drinks including Pimms, Mimosas and a Gin cocktail. Note that only one glass of bubbles is included and other alcoholic drinks are in additional cost to the $45 per person for the fixed menu.

We very much enjoyed our afternoon and would go again.
